Os róseos chinelos novos da minha esposa
têm alegres pompons.
Não há uma mancha ou uma marca
nas pontas de cetim ou nos lados.
Toda noite eles juntos descansam
na beira de sua cama.
Tremendo os avisto
e sorrio, pela manhã.
Mais tarde os vejo
descendo a escada,
apressados através das portas
e da mesa em volta,
movendo-se tesos 
com um sacolejo dos alegres pompons!
E tenho com eles uma conversa
em minha mente secreta
de pura felicidade.

My wife's new pink slippers
have gay pompons.
There is not a spot or a stain
on their satin toes or their sides.
All night they lie together
under her bed's edge.
Shivering I catch sight of them
and smile, in the morning.
Later I watch them
descending the stair,
hurrying through the doors
and round the table,
moving stiffly
with a shake of their gay pompons!
And I talk to them
in my secret mind
out of pure happiness.
