We are inescapably superfluous.
What can the machine of life
Before the mechanics of nothing?
However we have much to discuss!
Oh machinery of fury and flesh!
Oh wagon that is being filled
With our poor outworn hopes!
Oh stage of horrors and fates!
At the mercy of what reaches us
We are, without an emergency exit.
And with sharp tusks Chance lacerates
And chews us. What can we do, thus?
Oh mechanism of clauses and gashes
For ages established, without a switch!
Oh cruel arena of pity and fears in which
Being a laboratory rat is ineluctable!
