William Butler Yeats: "After Long Silence"

"Após longo silêncio" (tradução de Adriano Nunes)

Conversa após longo silêncio; é certo,
Os amantes a estar mortos ou ausentes,
Pôs sob sombra de hostil foco luzente,
Sobre hostil noite o cortinado aberto,
Que nós cantávamos e recantávamos
Sobre o magno tema d'Arte e Canção:
Velhice é prudência; jovens então
Amávamo-nos e ignorantes éramos.

William Butler Yeats: "After Long Silence"

Speech after long silence; it is right,
All other lovers being estranged or dead,
Unfriendly lamplight hid under its shade,
The curtains drawn upon unfriendly night,
That we descant and yet again descant
Upon the supreme theme of Art and Song:
Bodily decrepitude is wisdom; young
We loved each other and were ignorant.
